Competencies
Competencies of Effective Employment Specialist
The above diagram is based on the competencies adopted by APSE (the Association of People Supporting Employment First) in early 2001. ACRE (Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators) later refined and expanded on these competencies so that they would include multiple approaches to employment for people with disabilities.

ACRE competencies are the basis for two levels of employment services certification:
-
Basic Employment Services Certificate: minimum of 40 hours of training
-
Professional Employment Services Certificate: additional 40 hours of training (80 hours total) plus a minimum of one year of experience in the field.
